Troubleshooting tips

Check this list of problems and possible remedies before taking your hearing instruments in for service. For any problems not listed here, or if the problem persists, contact your hearing healthcare professional. Hearing instruments are advanced electronic devices — never attempt to repair them yourself. Doing so may cause further damage and void any warranties.

Symptom: Hearing instrument has no sound.

Cause
Possible remedy
Hearing instrument is turned off.
Check to ensure the hearing instrument is turned on.
Battery is upside down.
Ensure battery is plus (+) side up.
Battery is depleted or 'dead’. Replace the battery.
Microphone protector is plugged. Consult your hearing healthcare professional.
Hearing instruments, earmolds, slim tubes and/or domes are blocked with earwax. Clean earmolds and/or domes. Use cleaning pin to dislodge earwax in slim tubes. Consult your hearing healthcare professional.
Hearing instrument is damaged or defective. See your hearing healthcare professional.

Symptom: Hearing instrument isn't loud enough.

Cause
Possible remedy
The volume is set too low.
Turn up the volume. See your hearing healthcare professional for models without a manual volume control or if problem persists.
Battery is low.
Replace the battery.
Hearing instruments, earmolds, slim tubes and/or domes are not inserted properly.
Remove and reinsert carefully.
Hearing instruments, earmolds, slim tubes and/or domes are blocked with earwax.
Clean earmolds and/or domes. Use cleaning pin to dislodge earwax in slim tubes. Consult your hearing healthcare professional.
Microphone protector is plugged.
Consult your hearing healthcare professional.
Your hearing has changed.
Consult your hearing healthcare professional.

Symptom: Hearing instruments are whistling.

Cause
Possible remedy
Hand and/or clothing are near ear.
Move hand and/or clothing away from ear.
Hearing instruments, earmolds, slim tubes and/or domes are not inserted properly.
Remove and reinsert carefully.
Hearing instruments, earmolds, slim tubes and/or domes are blocked with earwax.
Clean earmolds and/or domes. Use cleaning pin to dislodge earwax in slim tubes. Consult your hearing healthcare professional.
Hearing instruments, earmolds and/or slim tubes are fitting poorly.
Consult your hearing healthcare professional.
Battery is running low.
Replace the battery.
Microphone protector is plugged.
Consult your hearing healthcare professional.

Symptom: Sound is distorted or unclear.

Cause
Possible remedy
Battery is running low.
Replace the battery.
Hearing instruments, earmolds and/or slim tubes are fitting poorly.
Consult your hearing healthcare professional.
Hearing instrument is damaged or defective.
See your hearing healthcare professional.

Symptom: Performance is inconsistent.

Cause
Possible remedy
Battery is running low.
Replace the battery.
Battery contact is dirty.
Consult your hearing healthcare professional.

Symptom: Hear 2 long beeps.  

Cause
Possible remedy
Battery is running low.
Replace the battery.

Symptom: Earmolds, slim tubes and/or domes are falling out of ear.

Cause
Possible remedy
Hearing instruments, earmolds, slim tubes and/or domes are not inserted properly.
Remove and reinsert carefully.
Hearing instruments, earmolds, slim tubes and/or domes are fitting poorly.
Consult your hearing healthcare professional.


Symptom:  The sound is weak on the telephone.

Cause
Possible remedy
Hearing instrument requires adjustment.
Consult your hearing healthcare professional.
Telephone is not positioned properly.
Move telephone receiver around ear for clearer signal.
